We鈥檙e proud to share that the Division of Gastroenterology contributed to a major multicenter randomized controlled trial published in Gastroenterology.
The ELEMENT Trial, led by Dr. Yen-I Chen (first author) and Dr. Alan Barkun (senior author), compares endoscopic ultrasound鈥揼uided biliary drainage (EUS-CDS) using a lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS) versus endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography with metal stenting (ERCP-M) as first-line treatment for malignant distal biliary obstruction (MDBO).
This landmark study, conducted across 11 institutions, shows that EUS-CDS is a safe, efficient, and noninferior alternative to ERCP-M - offering compelling evidence to support its broader adoption in clinical practice.
