The next federal election will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025. ´ó·¢²ÊƱƽ̨ will remain open, and all academic and administrative activities will proceed as scheduled.
Activities on April 28
In accordance with the Canada Elections Act, the University is not required to suspend classes or other academic activities on election day. Courses, laboratories, and previously scheduled exams will take place as planned.
Please note: Centrally scheduled examinations on April 28 will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., instead of the originally scheduled 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (see Exam Dates for details).
Instructors who are still finalizing their course plans are encouraged, where possible, to avoid setting tests or major deadlines on that date. In situations where conflicts arise, reasonable efforts should be made to accommodate students.
The Canada Elections Act also provides that employees must have the opportunity to vote. The University’s practice is to ensure that employees have a period of four consecutive hours during polling hours to do so. Given that polls will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., it is anticipated that only a small number of employees will require adjustments to their work schedules.
On-Campus Voting Station: April 13–16
To support participation in the election, Elections Canada will set up a voting station on campus from April 13 to 16, 2025.
- Location: Cafeteria, 2nd floor, University Centre (3480 McTavish St)
- Open to: Students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community
This advance voting opportunity allows members of the ´ó·¢²ÊƱƽ̨ community to vote ahead of election day. For details on what you need to vote on campus—including ID requirements and eligibility—visit Elections Canada's page on .
Use of University Resources
Members of the University community are reminded to exercise care in the use of University resources during the election period. University facilities, communications tools, or other resources must not be used for partisan or campaign activities.
