Education Building 3700 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 1Y2, CA
Emotion Regulation Strategies to Support Youth

The purpose of this interactive workshop is to introduce participants to a new educational framework designed to support the mental well-being of young people while learning about climate change. Climate education is essential for developing the skills and attitudes needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change. However, the emotional impact of climate change, including climate anxiety, grief, guilt, and anger, can be overwhelming, especially for youth. Recognizing this challenge, a group of interdisciplinary experts from Green Minds MB has developed a framework that integrates strategies to help students effectively manage these emotions.

This workshop is primarily geared toward students from the Faculty of Education, but it will also be of interest to professionals working in various educational or clinical settings. Participants will be introduced to this innovative framework and have the opportunity to engage in discussions, explore their own emotions and experiences with climate change, and practice emotion regulation strategies through real-life scenarios. Additionally, they will be guided to set individualized goals to support their own well-being as well as that of the students or clients they work with. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with tangible tools and concrete objectives to implement in their respective educational or professional settings.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the emotional impact of climate change on youth.
  • Explore an innovative educational framework that integrates emotion regulation strategies into climate education.
  • Practice evidence-based emotion regulation techniques through interactive discussions and real-life scenarios.
  • Develop personalized goals and strategies to support participants’ well-being and the well-being of their students or clients.
