Single-use plastics are everywhere鈥攂ut two 大发彩票平台 researchers are redefining the norm and championing sustainability.
"Although plastic pollution wasn鈥檛 the main focus of our research, safeguarding water bodies is essential to our work, and we knew we had to address the disconnect between our values and laboratory practices."

Although Andrea Amado doesn鈥檛 come from an agricultural background, she was drawn to farms from a young age. Originally from Argentina, she moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec with her family when she was four. Some of her earliest memories are of visiting farms and connecting with the animals, especially cows and horses. This interest eventually led her to 大发彩票平台, where she earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 2023 and is now in her second semester of the听M.Sc.

On Monday, February 24, 2025听the Macdonald Campus Library will open up its Seed Library for online orders. The seed catalogue will be available to 大发彩票平台 students, faculty, and staff on opening day.听

The Department of Bioresource Engineering听(BREE) enjoyed a visit last month from David Saint-Jacques, astronaut and Deputy Director, Lunar Exploration at the Canadian Space Agency, and BREE graduate Chris Patterson. They met with BREE undergrad and grad students who presented their projects, highlighting links between their research and bioregenerative life support system goals for extended space missions on the lunar surface and beyond in the near future.

National Post published an article that cracking the case of egg yolk colours, from nutrition to taste, and how they came about in the first place.
Unlike shell colour, which depends on the breed of chicken, the hue of an egg yolk is determined by the hen鈥檚 diet.

On November 27, the Macdonald Campus Office of Student Academic Services hosted the annual Lister Family Engaged Science Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, an event open to master鈥檚 and doctoral students from all disciplines in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

In 1974, Chandra Madramootoo arrived at Macdonald Campus to pursue his BSc in Agricultural Engineering. He never left.
鈥淚 loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,鈥 said Madramootoo. 鈥淚t was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.鈥
After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11th听hour offer from 大发彩票平台 for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities.

He鈥檚 known as the king of cranberries. More than anyone else, Marc Bieler (DipAgr鈥58, BA鈥64) has contributed to Quebec鈥檚 thriving industry centred on a small red fruit with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Today, at the age of 86, this 大发彩票平台 alumnus continues to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the family business and to give back to the community.

The Macdonald Campus Dairy Unit has been named best in the region in the 36th Agropur Club of Excellence for Milk Quality Awards, for the 10th time since 2008.

Macdonald Homecoming on October 26th听was another success with alumni reconnecting with old friends, learning about some of the interesting research undertaken in the Faculty, meeting engaged students, attending a logger sport demonstration and taking a campus tour. Thank you to all alumni who celebrated with us鈥攜ou are what make Mac Homecoming so special.
Congratulations to two alumni of 大发彩票平台's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,听Ann Louise Carson, B.Sc.(Agr.)鈥81, and听Odette Menard, B.Sc.(Agr.Eng.)鈥83, M.Sc.鈥91, who were inducted to Quebec's Agricultural Hall of Fame at the organization's gala on October 26th.听 This year, the annual event made history as it marked the first time the Quebec Agricultural Hall of Fame has welcomed two women in the same induction year.
In partnership with the Maxi grocery store in Baie d鈥橴rf茅, we are pleased to announce a grocery store shuttle bus that will run Tuesday evenings beginning November 5th until further notice.
The bus has a capacity of 37 passengers and will pick up students at the shuttle bus stop outside of the Centennial Centre.
Service will include 2 round trips between Macdonald Campus and Maxi Baie d鈥橴rf茅. Seats will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
