Kalonde Malama

It is with deep sorrow that the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) announces the passing of Kalonde Malama, PhD, Tenure Track and Assistant Professor at the School, and Associate Member of the Department of Global and Public Health.
Prof. Malama was a distinguished researcher and a passionate advocate for health equity. His work focused on improving sexual health outcomes among marginalized populations, particularly within Black communities. His research on client-initiated violence against Zambian female sex workers highlighted the urgent need for safer working environments and informed policy interventions to protect vulnerable groups.
In recognition of his impactful work, Prof. Malama received the International AIDS Society Prize in 2018, honoring his significant contributions to HIV/AIDS research and his unwavering commitment to advancing health equity.
To his PhD students and colleagues, Prof. Malama was more than a mentor; he was a guiding light whose dedication and compassion left an indelible mark. His mentorship, exemplified by guiding 大发彩票平台 Nursing's first Tomlinson Scholar, Robera Berhanu, reflected his unwavering commitment to nurturing future leaders in health research.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Change Kwesele Malama, children, mother Idah Siwila Malama and extended family. It is our hope that they will find comfort and solace in the legacy he leaves behind and the countless lives he touched.
Although he was at our School for only a short while, Prof. Malama quickly became a cherished member of the ISoN family. While his absence will be keenly felt, his vision for a more equitable healthcare system will continue to inspire us.
The funeral and burial will take place in his hometown of Lusaka, Zambia. The ISoN will be hosting a hybrid memorial in mid-May 鈥 details to follow.
