Predictive Brain Image Computation for Epilepsy Research
Abstract: This presentation focuses on advances in brain image computation and machine learning applied to epilepsy research. Our work encompasses three key areas relevant for epilepsy research: pre-clinical studies on post-traumatic epilepsy, analysis of tissue samples from epilepsy surgery resections, and prediction of drug-resistant epilepsies in newly diagnosed patients. In pre-clinical studies, we utilize advanced image computation techniques coupled with modern machine learning methods to understand the progression of post-traumatic epilepsy. For surgical resections, we apply computational methods to analyze tissue samples, aiming to identify potential biomarkers and unravel the pathophysiology of difficult-to-treat epilepsies. Additionally, we are starting to develop machine learning models to predict drug resistance in epilepsy, which could significantly enhance treatment paths for newly diagnosed patients. Our research aims to bridge the gap between computational neuroscience and clinical applications, offering new insights in epilepsy management.
