Description:
Healthcare disparities are increasing globally, and cancer care is no exception. Issues of patient safety and quality of care coexist with challenges with access and affordability. While this is a phenomenon worldwide, the problems are especially more in low- and middle-income countries. With the growing burden of cancer in LMICs, the relative inadequacy of infrastructure and human resource, it is imperative that these countries prepare with innovative solutions to address these problems. The National Cancer Grid of India is a large network of 370+ cancer centres, research institutions, patient groups, professional societies and charitable organizations created with a mandate of uniform standards of cancer care, create adequate human resource, and be a ready platform for collaborative multidisciplinary cancer research. Increasingly, these solutions have been opened up for other countries, making this a truly global effort. In this talk, Dr C S Pramesh will describe the journey of the National Cancer Grid, and it's disruptive solutions to address formidable challenges in cancer care in India that could well be a model to replicate in other geographies.
