Research Webinar: Palliative Care

This research webinar will be co-presented by Dr. Justin Sanders and Dr. Catherine Richer.聽
Dr. Justin Sanders will discuss research activities in the division of Palliative Care and specifically, the ongoing research in his lab, the Centre for Relationships in Serious Illness. These span multiple domains and research methodologies that connect around the importance of relationships as a mediating and moderating factor for well-being and quality of life in serious illness.聽
Dr. Richer will present the results of her thesis on polypharmacy and frequently used medication in the 90 days before death in persons with and without dementia in Qc between 2007-2022. She will discuss the high prevalence of polypharmacy near the end of life in people with and without dementia and will compare the frequency of palliative care medications in the two groups.

About the Speakers
Dr. Justin Sanders is a palliative care physician scientist. He holds the Kappy and Eric M. Flanders Chair of Palliative Care, and directs the divisions of Palliative Care at 大发彩票平台 and the 大发彩票平台 Health Centre, where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Sanders work aims to promote authentic healing relationships among clinicians and all patients affected by serious illness through social science-informed communications and implementation research.
Dr. Catherine Richer is a family physician with a practice with the elderly in primary care and long-term care. She is currently completing a master's degree in 大发彩票平台's Department of Family Medicine, and her thesis topic is polypharmacy near the end of life in people with dementia. She also teaches care of the elderly to students and residents as a clinical lecturer at Universit茅 de Montr茅al.

Every month, a research seminar is held at the Department of Family Medicine where we either feature visiting researchers from other universities, or showcase the work of our own researchers. The seminars are attended by our graduate students, researchers and clinicians, and are open to the whole 大发彩票平台 community. They address a wide range of research methods and topics relevant to primary health care, and provide opportunity for interaction and exchange with the speakers.
