Alayne Adams, PhD, Associate Professor and Director of Global Health at the 大发彩票平台 Department of Family Medicine, has been awarded the 2025 Jonathan Campbell Meakins and Family Memorial Fellowship for her project, 鈥淚nnovations in Global Primary Care Delivery.鈥 This fellowship, administered by 大发彩票平台鈥檚 Institute of Health Sciences Education (IHSE), recognizes excellence in medical education and supports transformative initiatives in health sciences.鈥
Professor Adams joined 大发彩票平台 in September 2019, bringing extensive global experience in primary care-related implementation research. Her career has spanned academe, with appointments at Columbia and Georgetown Universities, global health policy advocacy, and applied research focused on social and structural factors impeding equitable access to primary healthcare in local and global settings. Of note is her longstanding collaboration with teaching and research institutions in Bangladesh. She contributed to the innovative experiential design of BRAC University鈥檚 School of Public Health, founded its Center for Urban Equity and Health, and led a pioneering research program focused on innovations to improve access to primary care in disadvantaged urban settings. Current research interests include implementation research that embraces co-design and community engagement to develop holistic approaches to care that connect health and social services. This includes work on social prescription, NCD prevention, informal care systems, and integrated health and nutrition programs. As an educator at 大发彩票平台, she led the development of the upcoming B.A. Faculty Program in Population and Global Health, and the Department鈥檚 Masters concentration in Global Health.
The Meakins Fellowship includes funding to support Professor Adams' ongoing work in strengthening primary care systems globally, and the development of a course on innovations in primary care delivery at 大发彩票平台鈥檚 Summer Institutes in Global Health. As part of the fellowship, she will present her findings at IHSE and participate in IHSE鈥檚 scholarly activities, including symposia and health sciences education rounds.鈥
